The Atlantic hurricane season is officially June 1 through November 30, but late August through September are the most active months for storm threats in Massachusetts. Hurricanes and tropical storms have the power to cause widespread devastation, and can affect both coastal and inland areas.

Threats from storm activity can include:

  • High winds
  • Storm surge
  • Heavy rainfall
  • Inland flooding
  • Tornadoes
  • Rip currents

It is important to be informed about the current status of an impending storm. Be prepared for evacuation, power outages, and emergencies by creating a family emergency and/or evacuation plan. There are many steps you can take to prepare your home and yard such as securing loose objects, clearing gutters of debris, and ensuring basement pumps are in good working condition.
